William Moodie – Letter 22 - from Busby, Scotland,1859

Wm Moodie Letter 22 – 11 Nov 1859– 4 pages

This is a short letter responding to two of Alex's.  William comments on Alex's misfortune regarding his friend J. Leckie -  Alex felt that Mr Leckie, a supposedly upstanding married citizen, had tried to trick Alex into marrying the woman who he himself had compromised.

Alex had also mentioned their mutual friend Stevens and his speculating misadventures. William comments on Alex's new situation, although it is not quite clear what it entails -  possibly another attempt at finding gold.

William briefly mentions local news:  Alex's father is in Glasgow, although William has no news of him.

“All your Leven friends are quite well. Mrs Stephens was asking for you the last time I was down and all our folks are well. James is in the Normal Seminary and Robt is in Busby here with us as a people teacher. Father is still among the Turks.
Mary and I have got no nearer to our own home yet, but live on in strong hope and love.”

Wm also thanks Alex for the ‘8 papers and 3 Punches’ he sent.
